CHURCH

The church is defined as the groups of Christians who have their own beliefs and forms of worship [syn: Christian church] Also a place for public (especially Christian) worship; a service conducted in a church; “don’t be late for church” and the body of people who attend or belong to a particular local church; “our church is hosting a picnic next week.”

Brief Explanation:

Church  life  can  be  most  satisfying  and  most disappointing, depending on a number of factors. One thing is certain about the church; Jesus loves His church, is building it, and requires that his children not forsake it for something else. In my years as a therapist, I have had to recommend that people leave a certain congregation due to its abusive or neglectful practices, but that is very rare. IN most cases, people need to stay and work out their problems in the midst of the community of faith called the church, as it is a part of the over all healing process for most. Church, in spite of its inconsistencies, problems and weaknesses is God’s instrument for us to work out character, try out friendships, make mistakes and hopefully learn grace, mercy and love; characteristics often missing in the dysfunctional family a counselee might have been raised in. I highly recommend the church. (* see Building the Church God Wants and Supernatural Architecture by Dr. Ken Chant and Dr. Stan DeKoven).

The Word of God:

Matthew 16:18

“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock (revelation that Jesus is the Christ) I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not overpower it.”

1 Corinthians 14: 23

“If therefore the whole church should assemble together…”

2 Timothy 2:19

“Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord abstain from wickedness.”

1 Peter 2: 5,9

“…you  also,  as  living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called your out of darkness into His marvelous light;”

Hebrews 10:25

“…not forsaking our own assembling together,  as  is  the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more, as you see the day drawing near.”
