PARENTS
Definition:
A parent is one who begets, gives birth to, or nurtures and raises a child; a father or mother. A parent can include any ancestor; a progenitor. It can also include a guardian; a protector.
Brief Explanation:
Parenting is a difficult task, especially in the fast-paced change a minute world we live in. Parents must be more determined than ever to guard and guide their children.
Many parents approach the task with planning, many without a clue. Often, when problems arise in the children, the parents are desperate for answers. Since each situation is different, the best advice is often to present principles, and then see what has worked in the past and try some new things to help the situation.
Parenting should be purposeful, developmentally sensitive, biblical in terms of principle, and flexible, since blessed are the flexible, they shall not be broken. For more, see Parenting on Purpose by Dr. Stan DeKoven.
The Word of God:
Leviticus 19:3
“Every one of you shall reverence his mother and his father, and you shall keep My Sabbaths; I am the Lord your God.”
Proverbs 22:6
“Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Proverbs 23:13
“Do not hold back discipline from the child.”
Ephesians 6:1-3
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.”
