PATIENCE

PATIENCE

Definition:

Patience is the capacity, quality, or fact of being patient. Patience emphasizes calmness, self-control, and the willingness or ability to tolerate delay or to delay gratification.

Brief Explanation:

“Dear Lord, give me patience, and give it to me now!” Not the brightest of prayers, but understandable. Patience, especially with oneself or family members is a necessary ingredient to the healing process for most. It takes time to create a problem, and it takes time to see the problem resolved.

Counselors need patience as well. The process of change is a time consuming one, and is in the hands of the Lord and the person being helped. Patience, the ability to give time a chance is a great virtue, and one we as counselors need to practice.

The Word of God:

Psalm 37:7

“Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.”

Hebrews 10:36

“For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.”

Galatians 5:22

“But the fruit of the Spirit is…patience…”

James 1:4

“And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
